Mrs. Calvin, daughter of William H. and Mary A. Shattuck, was born July 5, 1874, on the Shattuck homestead in Valley township in Linn county.

She was united in marriage to Elmer L. Calvin February 13, 1898, and they started their life together on the farm three miles north of Trading Post where they lived forty-six years. They were the parents of five children: Homer Calvin, Osborne, Kansas; Lee Calvin, LaCygne; Clifton Calvin, Lawrence; and Christine Leascher and Frieda Shannon, of Kansas City, Missouri.

In May 1944, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin retired from the farm and moved to LaCygne where Mr. Calvin died October 10, 1945. Since that time Mrs. Calvin has continued to make her home in LaCygne where she enjoyed the company of many close friends and took a great interest in the church and community affairs. She was a member of the Methodist church; first at East Mount Zion and later at the Methodist church in LaCygne.
